Business Development Director

Greg Lehmann

Greg is the Business Development Director of Novix IT. For most clients he is the first conversation and the one that continues: the account, the service levels, the new work and the reasons for staying. Behind that sit more than 30 years in technology, from hardware and technical delivery through to IT leadership, P&L ownership and strategy. He spent the 1990s as IT Executive for an international health and fitness group, with three regional offices, more than 1,000 employees and 78 connected gyms, and has founded three businesses of his own, including a managed services firm he ran for 25 years. That is both sides of the table: the technology leader accountable for delivery, and the business owner paying for it.

The job is not to sell you more IT. It is to work out which bits of IT you actually need, and which bits you are paying for and not using.

That history shapes how he works. He weighs technology by the outcome it delivers rather than its feature list, and leads with education rather than a pitch, on the view that an informed client makes better decisions and the relationship lasts longer. Clients tend to describe working with him as honest, direct and unhurried, with no hard sell and no jargon, and his starting point is usually that a firm is better served by less technology, chosen well, than by more. Originally from Cape Town and now based near Edinburgh, he works with clients across Scotland and the wider UK.

straight answers

What people ask Greg first

Questions, mostly mine. I want to understand how the firm runs and what is getting in the way before anyone talks about technology. You get a written view of what I have heard, and no pitch at the end of it.

Because I spent 25 years as the owner paying the invoice, so I know what unused licences feel like. The first thing I usually find is spend on things nobody is using. On one client that came to 60% off their IT costs.

Yes, and earlier is better. Most agreements carry a notice period that renews quietly, so a review three months out leaves you with a decision to make, while a review three weeks out usually leaves you with another year of what you already have.

There is a 90 day money back guarantee on Novix services, so the risk of finding out sits with us rather than with you. Licences and hardware we buy on your behalf are not covered, for the straightforward reason that we cannot hand those back.
